Heavy explosions and massive gunshots are being heard across parts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The explosions which reportedly started around 5:45 pm up to the time of sending this report were heard around Fori general area near Giwa military barracks.
Residents in nearby areas like Mairi, Kaleri, and Constein claimed that detonation caused fear and pandemonium but cannot assert if there was any casualty.

One of the residents who spoke with newsmen said: “People are just running in no direction. The explosions were coming from our area. What I cannot say is if people have died."
Armed insurgents were believed to be behind the attack in their attempt to infiltrate the city, as troops engaged them, earlier today, sources said.
The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru last Sunday, during an Operational Visit to the state, gave 48 hours ultimatum to troops to recapture Marte Local Government Area which had been under the control of insurgents.
