Oyo state-based politician and farmer, Fatai Aborode, has died after he was allegedly shot dead by unknown gunmen on Friday, 11 December 2020.
Aborode ran as candidate for the seat of the House of Representatives on the platform of the Accord Party (AP) during the 2015 general elections.
He was allegedly shot and killed just as he was about to leave his farm around 4.00pm in the company of his manager, names withheld, on a motorbike.
Spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, Gbenga Fadeyi, who confirmed the incident, said Aborode was confirmed dead by doctors at the Olugbon hospital, Igboora, where he was rushed after the attack.
He added that efforts were being made to arrest the gunmen.
Said he in the statement: “At about 1750 hrs of 11/12/2020, along Apodun road Igangan, one Alh Fatai Aborode ‘m’ of Igangan, was robbed and shot by four unknown gun men, the victim was rushed to Olugbon hospital Igboora where he was confirmed dead. Effort is on to arrest the fleeing assailants," Fadeyi said.
