The Federal government, has reinstated Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as the vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Abuja City Journal had on Tuesday night reported that Ogundipe had been cleared and returned to office.
The Spokesman to the Ministry of Education, Ben-Bem Goong confirmed the story on Wednesday when he addressed press conference in Abuja.
He stated that the report of the Presidential visitation panel on the crisis rocking the University, indicated that the removal of Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe as the Vice-Chancellor, did not follow due process.
“Mr. President after careful review of the report has approved all the recommendations of the Panel. Accordingly: Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe is hereby reinstated as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos.” he announced.
According to Goong, President Buhari also dissolved the UNILAG governing council led by Dr. B. O. Babalakin.
“Mr. President hopes these steps will bring peace, stability, focus and direction to the University,” Goong said.
It would be recalled that, Ogundipe, was removed from office in August 2020, under a controversial circumstance by the then Wale Babalakin led governing council of the university.
The council then named one Prof. Theophilus Omololu Soyombo of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Lagos as the acting Vice Chancellor but the Senate of the University again sacked Soyombo and elected the deputy vice-chancellor in charge of development services, Folasade Ogunsola, as the institution’s acting vice-chancellor.
