The Association of Nigeria Geographers (ANG) Conference 2018 has started.
The conference which has “Geography and Sustainable National Development” as the theme has will host all Geographers and delegates from around the world at the Department of Geography, Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Ibadan, from November 5th to 9th, 2018.
The conference coincides with the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of University of Ibadan and her Department of Geography which is the first in Nigeria. It promises to engage delegates through parallel Technical Sessions, Secondary Schools Quiz Competition and Networking.
Highlights the ANG Conference 2018 include Keynote Presentation by Mallam Y.K Yari, UN Habitat; Professor Akin L Mabogunje, MNIM; Prof. Sani A. Mashi DG, NIMET, on Climate Change and National Development; Prof. Demola Omojola from UNILAG on Remote Sensing and the Sustainable Development Goals; Prof E. Oladipo, on International Development Agencies and the Sustainable Development Goals. Others are Mr Soji Taiwo, on Sustainable Development Agencies and the Sustainable Development Goals and Dr Wale Oduwole.
According to LOC Chairman for the Conference and HOD Geography UI, Dr Dickson Ajayi, “the conference is significant in the sense that it is in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Geography as a discipline in the Nigeria”. He added that, “this is a landmark occasion for the community of Geographers to showcase our achievement and contribution to national development.
